Novak recently completed an exciting commission as part of the new interactive arts initiativeThe Space. The ‘Pallion‘ commission will be shown at the ‘Space Invasion’ public event at The Sage Gateshead on 22nd September and online at http://thespace.org/items/e0000h2a
Space Invasion is one of the UK’s largest projects for The Space – the experimental £2.5 million digital arts initiative developed by Arts Council England in partnership with the BBC.
Creative agencies Generator and Northern Film & Media joined forces to deliver Space Invasion – a series of experimental music, arts and film collaborations in unusual venues across North East England.
We worked on the ‘Pallion’ piece with Lanterns on the Lake (signed to legendary label Bella Union). The band and Novak created a unique audio and visual response using music and video mapping projected directly onto to the TSS Manxman ship at the Pallion Shipyard, Sunderland. This ship has been decommissioned and ‘Pallion’ tells the story of the historic vessel and once thriving shipbuilding yard.
The public event at The Sage Gateshead will show all of the work produced through Space Invasion and feature live performances, including special guest Ghostpoet, Raj Pannu, Lulu James, Jethro Fox and Seye, plus screenings of Space Invasion works.
